About Us

Our Story

Karuna Care was born because of the incredible journey of its co-founder, Sharmila Ghrimire whose life took a miraculous turn when God healed her from terminal heart disease. This profound experience inspired Sharmila and her husband, Dhan Raj, to embrace Christianity and discover their true calling: to serve and uplift women and children facing tough situations on the streets and those caught in the clutches of trafficking.

With hearts full of compassion and faith, Sharmila, a nurse, and Dhan Raj, a schoolteacher, decided to embark on this mission together. They took a leap of faith in 2006, leaving behind their regular jobs, and thus, Karuna Care was born.

In the very first year, they managed to touch the lives of over 100 street children, offering them hope and a brighter future. As time went on, their outreach expanded, encompassing the rescue and support of exploited women as well.

Today we can proudly say that 260 women have been rescued and joyfully reunited with their families, while 1225 street children have been given a new lease on life through the care and support of Karuna.

As their vision continued to grow they shared their dream for helping vulnerable women and children internationally with others, adding global partners and registering Karuna Care International as a non-profit organization.
